20 february 2010 - Katowice, Rynek. Dzisiaj w godzinach południowych mieliśmy zatrzymanie w centrum Katowic, spowodowane... zrzucaniem śniegu z jednego z budynków przy ul. Św. Jana (klik). Wyłączono napięcie i żaden tramwaj nie mógł w tym czasie przyjechać z Brynowa. Tramwaje jadące od Chorzowa były kierowane głównie na Plac Wolności.

Chorzow type tram #?
1940 - Katowice - Warszawska. I’ve included this photo as it’s the only one I’ve seen of one of the trams built in Chorzow in 1938/9. WW2 put an end to production after only eight were built. The factory later became Konstal, of course. As far as I know, these were the first trams built there.

- Katowice – 3 Maja. The earliest photo I’ve seen of a tram in Katowice, taken in 1899. Narrow gauge car 12 runs along the edge of the road, looking towards today’s Plac Wolnosci. There is only one single track for the trams and not one motor vehicle can be seen – all is horse traffic. This photo was taken just a few weeks after the first trams arrived from Chorzow Batory direction.

1922 - Katowice – Rynek. The publisher of this German-period postcard has kindly labelled everything for us, so it needs little explanation from me. Schlesische Kleinbahn Walker car #254 stands at the terminal point outside the theatre. Narrow gauge trams finished here because in Friedrichstrasse were standard gauge tracks and the two didn’t meet.
Bremen/Hansa Waggonfabrik tram #?
1937 - Katowice – Rynek. Another interesting postcard of old Katowice. I can’t identify the very nice bus, but I expect one of our TWB experts will know. The tram and matching trailer are 1928 German-built Bremen type and the track is standard gauge. The tracks here were re-gauged from 1929 onwards, and for some years both narrow and standard gauge trams served central Katowice.

? - Katowice – Dworzec autobusowy. An very interesting postcard from the late 1960s shows the Katowice bus station at a time when everyone travelled by bus and not by car. Our TWB Ikarus experts will be able to identify many of the buses shown here, I expect.

1918 - Katowice – Friedrich Platz. A Walker car of Schlesische Kleinbahn A.G. stands at the terminal point outside the Katowice Theatre. Although the postcard is hand coloured, the colour scheme of the tram is extremely accurate. In narrow gauge days, all Silesian trams were double ended.
